Please Stay Involved!

Back in 2007 the Danbury Hockey Booster Club re-formed with the goal of bringing back and sustaining a Varsity Hockey Program at DHS. While we have brought back a team in the form of a tri-op with Brookfield and Bethel; the most difficult task will be sustaining and growing a program. Although the in-house and travel programs are growing with Danbury kids taking to the ice; the reality of the economic climate is our School’s are cutting back budgets which means we have to work even harder. Sadly, this past season an established program at a neighboring HS had to cancel their season. Remember, several years back a program got off the ground at DHS but quickly folded. We cannot let that happen again! Please stay involved, especially parents of younger hockey playing students, we cannot assume that the HS Team is a given! Watch for an email on our next meeting.

Inaugural Season

The BBD IceCats should be very proud of their accomplishments both on and off the ice this year.  Danbury joined Brookfield and Bethel for the first time and 3 School’s came together to work towards a common goal. The IceCats went to the SWC 2 Conference Final and to the quarter finals of the State Tournament. Overall, the team posted an impressive 16-6 record and a subset of the team played a number of Division 1 JV teams in scrimmages and was 5-0-1 so the future is bright!

As the year progressed support increased and over 1200 people packed Danbury Ice Arena for the SWC Final Game VS Joel Barlow. Students from Brookfield, Bethel, Danbury and Barlow loudly cheered their teams and were acknowledged in an article in the News Times for their good spirited and outstanding support.

Off the ice the players and families worked together on numerous fund raisers such as letter writing campaigns, working the concession stand at MadHatter games, serving breakfast at Applebee’s, and selling apparel and advertisements in the program book. Without this effort we would not be able to fund the program so thank you for a job well done! Special thanks to the “gang” who made sure every person attending an IceCat home game was asked several times to purchase a raffle ticket!

Also, thank you to the Team Managers, Coaches, Athletic Directors, Blueliners and Danbury Hockey Boosters for all your hard work and dedication! Lastly, thank you to the IceCat fans – everyone will fondly remember that cowbell and tremendous support.

Next year starts today!
